Haley, Veterinary Assistant and her cat

Meet Our Extern, Haley Davis

Hi! My name is Haley Davis.

As a 4th year student at Purdue University’s College of Veterinary Medicine, I am completing an externship with Brownsburg Animal Clinic between January 27 and February 14.

I am now in my clinical year at Purdue and am tracking small animal medicine with the intention of becoming a small animal general and/or emergency practitioner. I also have a special interest in pocket pets and have been expanding my knowledge in that field.

The externship is to provide me with real-world learning experiences. While I won’t yet be doing the hands-on work of a veterinarian, I will be shadowing the veterinarians to learn from them and develop a feel for what it will be like to practice my chosen profession when I finish my studies in a few short months.

I began shadowing Brownsburg Animal Clinic veterinarians when I was 15 years old and was hired as an assistant at age 16. I have loved my time at the clinic and appreciate how my experiences there have allowed me to expand my knowledge and grow into the veterinary medicine field. I have been able to continue working as a veterinary assistant there during breaks while I studied Animal Science at Purdue. I completed my bachelor’s degree in 2021.

As an undergraduate, I further expanded my experience by working in an animal behavior lab, in Purdue’s Oncology Department, and at a veterinary emergency hospital in Indianapolis.

Since starting vet school in Fall 2021, I have been involved in several clubs and have started as a volunteer on a therapy dog team with Pet Partners.

At school with me, I have a crew of animals who have supported me throughout this journey: dogs Siri (therapy dog) and Enzo (retired canine educator), cats Howie and Link (both blood donors), and six rats.

In my free time, I love volunteering with Siri, reading fantasy books, and taking aerial silks classes where I’m learning to perform acrobatics while hanging from fabric.

I am excited to come back to Brownsburg Animal Clinic as an extern and look forward to seeing all of you there!
